It has been raining all week. It’s usually sunny here so people are starting to complain about the dreary weather. I’m enjoying the rain because once it stops the next four months will be hot and dry. Snow is now in the forecast for Sunday. This will be the second year in a row for snow on Mother’s Day.
In other news, I’ve drained the pond. The remaining twenty-six fish were given to friends last weekend. The raccoon family living in the storm sewer started feasting on the fish. That, along with much needed pond maintenance, was the catalyst for ending the pond era in the backyard. My ex was so good at maintaining the pond and I didn’t have the motivation to keep it up. The fish are now in a much larger and cleaner pond.
I have a four-foot deep hole in the backyard that has started to fill up with rainwater. I’ll probably spend the rest of summer trying to figure out what to do with the hole. I’m thinking about a sunken seating area with a fireplace similar to the one in the courtyard at Ironton Studios, a pondless water feature, or filling the hole for a new vegetable garden. I’m in no hurry. There are plenty of other things to keep me busy.
