I hit a few of the galleries in the Santa Arts District on Saturday afternoon. There’s an outstanding show at Michael Warren Contemporary. The show features remarkable works by Etsuko Ichikawa. She creates her works by applying molten glass to very heavy paper. The glass burns and marks the paper before it is pulled off. I watched a video in the gallery showing Etsuko’s process. It reminded of clips I had seen of Jackson Pollack creating his drip paintings. I loved every piece in this show but, unfortunately, they were priced out of my reach.
Across the street, Point Gallery has great abstract paintings by Jennifer Davey and Susan Gibbons. My favorite piece was a painting by Jennifer Davey that could have been influenced by Cy Twombly’s blackboard paintings. Once again, the piece was priced out of my reach.
I had a nice leisurely afternoon checking out art between the relentless rain storms that have soaked the area. As I was driving home the rain began to fall again.
