At times, I forget to be grateful for my life. I go to work, go to the gym, eat, keep house, tend to the yard, spend money, pay bills, hang out with friends and hit the gallery openings. I get to do what I want, when I want. I forget how blessed I am to have the life I have. Then something happens that shakes me to the core.

Jacqueline invited Paddy and me to a fundraiser on Saturday night for a dance company she supports. In addition to being a hair stylist, Jacqueline also teaches yoga and dance along with being a massage therapist. She lends her considerable talents to the dance troupe.

The dance troupe welcomes all. Some dancers are blind, some are deaf, several are confined to wheelchairs and a few are professional dancers. The dancers include children, teenagers and adults.

The benefit was a two-act performance at the Colorado Ballet’s rehearsal space. The highlight of the evening was a performance that started out with a solo by thirty-something paraplegic man. The man could only slightly move one arm. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house.

A year earlier, the man was riding his bike when he was hit by a car. His life changed in an instant.

I felt like I had been slapped in the face. I take so much of my life for granted. I often forget how fortunate I am.

Too Thin?

IMG_2759 (2)
I saw this woman at the gym yesterday while I was doing cardio. I’ve never seen her before. I was shocked by how thin she was yet she was doing cardio. I wondered if she was recovering from an illness, had an eating disorder, or was just a naturally thin person.

IT Humor

I needed a login to access a database I use in my new job. I had to open a ticket with the IT helpdesk in order to request a login id. The new login id was emailed with the default password of CBGBOMFUG. At least someone in IT has a sense of humor. Do you get it? If not, click here.

Cindi returns from Santa Fe later today. She rented her house on Airbnb so she is essentially homeless until Sunday. Cindi will be staying at my house until she leaves for Winter Park on Saturday morning to teach skiing to differently-abled children.

Cindi’s house is advertised as 420-friendly. The house rents for $350.00 a day and has been attracting Chinese tourists. It makes me wonder why Chinese tourists want to stay in a remote mountain canyon an hour from downtown Denver and get stoned. Who knew Chinese tourists were fans of the Colorado high country? No pun intended.

Napping With Ferdinand

Ferdinand was gone for two weeks. He showed up on Sunday morning. Ferdinand played in the yard while I worked in the garden. He almost caught a rabbit for lunch. I took a nap after lunch as it was cloudy and cool and I had been up way too late on Saturday night. Ferdinand joined me. After my nap, I went to Costco and Target before hitting the gym. Ferdinand continued his nap until dinner time. He spent the night and then left this morning after breakfast. It was nice having him around.

The art tour wasn’t very exciting tonight. The highlight of the evening was getting a couple of slices of pizza on South Broadway. There’s always next week.
I haven’t figured out how to take a decent picture at night with my iPhone. I need to call my friend, Jackie, to see if she has any tips.

It’s Friday!

It’s Friday and I’m working from home. I’m two weeks into the new job. I received my first paycheck but it only covered a week. I’m paid monthly so the next paycheck arrives at the beginning of June. I’ve been told it takes a year to learn this job. I’ve learned a lot so far, but I still feel overwhelmed at times. The hellish commute is challenging every day. I leave the house at 6 and try to leave the office before 2 to beat the traffic. I finish my work day at home.

The work day will be over before I know it. I’ll the hit the gym, have a quick dinner and pick up Mack for the art tour. I’m looking forward to the weekend.
